The Murmur of the Seas 2013
In the period of time between the Holocaust Memorial Day and the Israeli Independence Day, Dan Reisner designed a large-scale public sculpture to commemorate the saving of most of the Jews of Denmark. The rescue took place in October 1943 when 7000 Jews, were smuggled to the safe shores of Sweden using fishing boats in the middle of the night. It was, according to Reisner’s interpretation, saving people by people. The Embassy of Denmark in cooperation with Haifa Municipality initiated the establishment of a public sculpture right across the “Carmel Beach” train station which will be named from now on: “Denmark Square”.
